After having finished my Diploma Psychology Studies at the RWTH Aachen, Germany, in 1991, I worked in Amherst, Massachusetts for five years. There, I dealt with motor activity and eye movements, among other things. Having finished my Ph.D., I worked as a researcher at the Ludwig-Maximillians-University in Munich, Germany, before I moved to the University of Dundee in Scotland. There, I worked for more than 12 years as a lecturer, senior lecturer, reader, and Professor before I was appointed chair of the Cognitive Sciences at the University of Potsdam.
