Teaching philosophy

Our teaching activities focus on high-quality and innovative university teaching in the fields of toxicology and nutritional science. Our teaching philosophy focuses on student-oriented, competence- and research-based learning and teaching. It is our goal to arouse enthusiasm for the topic, to clearly communicate learning goals, to convey important principles and skills, to show translational applications, and to adequately check learning success. It is our aim to keep a good balance between teaching as a "service" for the students and as a mission to ensure and expand scientific, social and economic progress.

Courses offered

The Chair of Nutritional Toxicology is intensively involved in the teaching of the courses offered at the Institute of Nutritional Science:

In the BSc degree program "Nutritional Science" we are involved in the following modules:
Nutritional Toxicology / Applied Aspects of Nutrional Toxicology (IEW-2.05), Foundations of Nutritional Science (IEW-2.01), and the practical courses Nutritional Toxicology (IEW-2.08) and Microbiology & Genetics (BIO-BM1.12).

In the MSc degree program "Nutritional Science" we are involved in the following modules:
Toxicology, Food Chemistry and Analytics in Nutritional Science (IEW-PM-3), Repetitorium Foundations of Nutritional Science (IEW-PM-1), practical course in Experimental Methods in Nutritional Science (IEW-PM-5), practical training as part of the directional modules and the specialization module (IEW-PM-7, IEW-WPM-11).

In the MSc degree program "Toxicology", we are involved in the following modules:
Foundations of Pharmacology (IEW-M1.2), Lab Course Toxicology (IEW-M1.1), Tissue-Specific Toxicity and Histopathology (IEW-M1.3), Special topics in Toxicology (IEW-M2.1), Experimental Toxicology - Testing Strategies (IEW-M2.2).

In the BSc degree program "Chemistry", we cover the part Toxicology of the module Toxicology and Law for Chemists (CHE-AWP4).

Furthermore, the Chair of Nutritional Toxicology participates in the advanced training program of the Society for Toxicology to obtain the certificate "European Certified Toxicologist". As part of the program, we offer the course "3Rs in Toxicology" in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Marcel Leist (University of Konstanz) and renowned guest speakers.
