Gastvortrag „New Resonances: Sounds and Stories for Zeng Heritage“
Lee Tsang (University of Liverpool) discusses aspects of his research process for the development of new musical works relating to Zeng heritage, specifically emphasising second generation diaspora perspectives. He draws on Hakka and Weitou Waa folk song, and addresses some issues relating to translation, Chinese philosophy, and genealogy. Practical applications of the research are demonstrated through examples drawn from his hybrid work – Nine Dragons Fantasy – an electroacoustic concerto for Poet-Baritone, String Quartet and Logic Pro (2022) – which he co-created with Canadian composer David Braid. The examples focus on various transformations both in words and music that illustrate the facilitation of dialogues across time and space, and explore the constructive, metaphorical potential of informed ‘conflations’ to serve the expression of identity.
