DFG-Project - The effects of cognitive aging on lexical and grammatical processing across the lifespan

The average global human life expectancy has nearly doubled over the last century, but there is still comparatively little known about the effects of aging on language processing, especially with regards to grammar. This project seeks to fill this gap by examining the development of morphological processing mechanisms across the adult lifespan (ages 18 - 90). Of particular interest is (a) how healthy aging might affect the processing of regular and irregular inflections, and (b) what role age-related changes to (non-)linguistic cognition (e.g., working memory or attention) might play.
