The „StRATEGy“ Fieldschool 2017 into the fold-and-thrust belt of the southern central Andes and the Neuquén basin was very important for us - in many ways. On the one hand, we were able to work out the differences and similarities to our observations from last year in northwest Argentina and, on the other hand, we gained insights into the second study area within the International Research Training Group. The impressive landscapes that have been formed and were preserved on different geological time-scales in the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan, and Neuquén  were the basis of vivid discussions among the doctoral students and the excursion supervisors and a great motivation to study the underlying geological processes in the near future.

Furthermore, two „Show-and-Tell Events” were of great importance, as we were able to present the first results of our research to the German and Argentine supervisors. We were grateful for constructive feedback, we exchanged problems and experiences in the daily life of a PhD-student, and we strengthened our team spirit. We were delighted by the hospitality and openness of our Argentine colleagues, supervisors, and long-time cooperation partners, who accompanied us during our fieldtrip.

After two weeks of „empanadas”, „asados” and „bifes”, we look forward to the good old german „Abendbrot”.

We would like to thank the coordination office and the cooperation partners of the International Research Training Group „StRATEGy“, for the great experiences during last 14 days. In particular, we would like to thank the German Research Foundation (DFG) for funding this fieldschool.
