Central mailing lists

If you want to send e-mails university-wide, three central lists are available:

  • Student list: student-list@uni-potsdam.de
  • Staff list: mitarbeiter-list@uni-potsdam.de
  • University list: uni-list@uni-potsdam.de

On the web pages of the Press and Public Relations Office, you will find general information on the university-wide central lists and the basic principles for moderating these lists (in german language)

Decentralised mailing lists

In addition to the three main lists, there are various other moderated and unmoderated decentralised lists. Further decentralised lists can be created.

To do so, please send the application for a new mailing list to the ZIM Service Center.

The same criteria apply to the operation of the decentralised lists as to the central lists (see link to the Press and Public Relations Office). For security and data protection reasons, commercial address collections may not be operated on the list server. The respective applicant is responsible for the proper operation of the decentralised lists.

If you have any questions about setting up a new list or about how it works, please send an e-mail to zim-serviceuni-potsdamde.

How the list server works

A list server is a service that automates the administration of e-mail addresses. E-mail addresses are grouped into lists. If an e-mail is sent to a list, it is distributed to all e-mail addresses contained in this list.

There are different types of lists:

In the case of moderated lists, the e-mail is first sent to a moderator who decides whether the e-mail is interesting for as many participants as possible.

With unmoderated lists, an e-mail is distributed immediately.

Subscribing to or unsubscribing from a mailing list (only applies to decentralised lists)

With both types of lists, participants can unsubscribe or subscribe to a list at any time via a web browser or by sending an e-mail.

Instructions:

Call up https://lists.uni-potsdam.de/mailman/listinfo/. You will get an overview of all freely accessible lists. Click on the desired list and follow the instructions.

You can also get help on the individual functions of the list by sending an e-mail to the request-address of the corresponding list and writing the word 'help' in the subject or in the body of the e-mail. The request-address of a list consists of the name of the list followed by -request@uni-potsdam.de. (i.g. uni-list-request@uni-potsdam.de)

E-mail distribution list - Account.UP

Account.UP allows you to create, edit or delete your own distribution lists in the Other > Email distribution list section. Email distribution lists are a simple means of group communication based on multiple addressing of an email to multiple email addresses.

You can find further information and specifications under accountup.uni-potsdam.de.

Functional mailbox (only for ZUV employees)

Functional mailboxes exist in addition to the personal mailbox. These mailboxes allow several people to read and edit the emails there with the access data of their own personal mailbox. Functional mailboxes are not intended for personal messages.

Functional mailboxes are set up exclusively for employees in the Central University Administration.
