Phase 3: Teach and Observe
The aim of this stage is to carry out the research lesson and systematically observe how pupils respond to the lesson design.

HINTS
- Pupils are sometimes a little nervous when new faces arrive in the classroom to observe a lesson. The class in which the research lesson takes place should therefore be prepared for the visitors. The more often Lesson Study takes place in the school, the more normal this situation will be for the class.
- Other materials that can facilitate observation include a wristwatch (to record the time), writing materials, a copy of the timetable or a seating plan for the whole class (particularly important if not everyone knows the class).
- In Germany, the culture of classroom observation in schools is often not very well developed and can quickly become reminiscent of an exam situation or an internship. However, Lesson Study is not about observing the teacher, but about observing the pupils' learning. In addition, the research lesson is collaboratively planned, which means that all members of the team are equally responsible for the success of the lesson.
