Role of the School Principal

The role of the school principal is central to creating the appropriate framework. However, they do not have to actively participate in a Lesson Study team.

The successful and sustainable implementation of Lesson Study takes place when (Lee & Lim-Ratnam, 2018; Van Boom-Muilenburg et al., 2022)

  • the school principal understands how Lesson Study works
  • is convinced that Lesson Study is a good thing for their school
  • is available to the Lesson Study team for questions and problems
  • supports the organisation of Lesson Study (e.g. takes into account collaboration time when planning lessons)
