Taiane holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Brazil). She was a visiting scholar at Penn State University in 2014 and Assistant Professor at Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos from 2015 to 2018. She is currently a lecturer and researcher at the chair Present-Day English Language and Linguistics. Her research concerns spoken and mediated interaction (instant messaging, video). Her main focus is on how foreign language speakers become more interactionally competent via engagement in interactions-for-learning in institutionalized and non-institutionalized environments. She uses methods from Conversation Analysis and Interactional Linguistics, complemented by work done within the fields of Ethnomethodology, Ethnography of communication, Linguistic Anthropology and Usage-based Linguistics. Among the practical implications of her research is the successful integration of new mediated forms of interaction into classroom language teaching.
