The comparison of the 32 major German institutions of higher education with more than 20,000 students showed that the degree programs designed by the University of Potsdam have a particularly international orientation: Not only does it occupy a top position with its international degree programs, but it is also far ahead in the categories “international degree programs in postgraduate studies” (2nd place), “English-language degree programs” (2nd place) and “double degree programs” (5th place). Overall, the University of Potsdam was able to improve or maintain its top position in 25 of the 39 evaluated parameters. In 22 categories, the university was ranked among the top 10.
The mobility of teaching staff in the Erasmus+ Program is emphasized in particular: The University of Potsdam is ranked first for incoming and second for outgoing teaching staff.
Dr. Dirk Schuster, who taught at the University of Vienna on the subject of religion under National Socialism, considered the exchange with students an enriching experience. “During the seminar, both sides were able to benefit extensively from the existing knowledge and learn from one another. We want to continue our cooperation and have planned another seminar in order to be able to deal with the topic in greater depth and then publish our results”, said the Potsdam-based scholar of religious studies.
The University of Potsdam also ranks among the ten best higher education institutions when it comes to DAAD individual funding (9th place) and the mobility of technical-administrative staff. It jumped directly to 7th place in this newly introduced category. “It is not only the experiences, but above all encounters with the people that are invaluable to you,” says university photographer Tobias Hopfgarten, who travelled to Liverpool in February. “It's great to know that in this short but intense time you have managed to set things in motion for yourself and for the department," the staff member of the university's Center for Information Technology and Media Management says.
For the first time, the study also looked at the share women had in the various categories: In terms of scientific and artistic staff from abroad, the university is in first place with women making up 56.8 percent and when it comes to female professors, it ranks second with 50 percent.
