Supramolecular and Materials Chemistry

Our groups research focuses on ionic liquids (ILs) and the development of diverse materials for applications and water treatment and beyond

We are developing (3D-printable) ionic liquids (ILs) that show promising potential for applications such as fuel cells. In addition, we are investigating metal-containing ILs and their optical and electrical properties for possible usage in technologies like solar cells or LEDs.

Our second research field focuses on biochar/activated carbon and materials for water purification and other application areas. These carbon-based materials are derived from regional biowaste products such as coffee grounds or orange peels. Furthermore, we are working with hydrogel materials based on chitosan, which can also be used in water treatment.
