Peter Kosta works on Biolinguistics, Universals, Language Typology, Theory of Language, Generative Syntax, Formal Semantics, Speech Act Theory, Conversational Analysis, Language Policy, Politolinguistics and Forensic Linguistics.

Peter Kosta is co-editor or on the board of many international Slavic and Linguistic Journals and Series: Journal of Slavic Linguistics (JSL), Zeitschrift für Slawistik (ZfSl), Specimina philologiae Slavicae (since 1986), Potsdam Linguistic Investigations, Potsdamer Beiträge zur Sorabistik and co-editor of HSK Slavic Languages: An International Handbook of their Structure, Their History and Their Investigations. Berlin, New York: Mouton de Gruyter.

He is a member of Linguistic Society of America (LSA, University of Chicago/Washington D.C.),  Committee on Endangered Languages and Their Preservation (CELP) of the Linguistics Society of America (University of Chicago/Washington D.C.);  Slavic Cognitive Linguistics Association (SCLA, Harvard University); Germanic Association for Forensic Linguistics (University Collogne), Indogermanische Gesellschaft (Friedrich-Schiller University Jena), International Pragmatic Association (IPrA, Antwerp, Belgium), Slavic Linguistic Society (SLS, Indiana Unvíversity, Bloomington), Societas Linguistica Europaea (KU Leuven, Belgium), and International Network in Biolinguistics (UQAM, Montréal, Canada).

Prof. Dr. Peter Kosta wurde am 2. Oktober 2019 im Rahmen einer Feierstunde des Rektorats der Russisch-Armenischen Universität in Eriwan zum Honorarprofessor ernannt.

Prof. Dr. Peter Kosta became Honorary Professor on October 2, 2019, in a ceremony of the Rectorate of the Russian-Armenian University, Yerevan.

Bloomington,  but also in Iran (2015) and Kazakhstan (2019) enables me to get feedback from students of different origin and countries. This is a very big challenge and it gives me the strength and forces me to expand my lectures even more to the concerns and perspectives of the next innovative generation of students and researchers.
