My diploma thesis was about "Frequency conversion at high average output power" and this work was done at the Festkörper-Laser-Institut Berlin (now Laser-Medizin-Zentrum Berlin) in the laser group of Prof. Weber and was finished in October 1994. The goal was to set up a frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser with high average output power and to examine his properties. Therefore experiments to the "green problem" were done at a lamp pumped quasi-cw system, a cw system with an average power of more than 5 W and cw pumped periodical Q-switched system with 22 W average output power in the green spectral range were realized. The average output power and the temporal behavior were calculated with rate equations and nonlinear output coupling. The limiting parameter of these systems was the nonlinear crystal. We used Kaliumtitanylphosphat (KTP) crystals from different crystal producers. The crystals show extremely low damage thresholdof about 30 MW/cm2 at high average power.

In appendix A there is a comprehensive list of the material parameters of KTP, especially the Sellmeier coefficients to calculate the refractive indices and a summary of published damage thresholds.
