PhD position on insulator-metal transition in NbO2

we are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to fill a PhD position at the University of Potsdam funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

This PhD project will investigate the photoinduced insulator-metal transition (IMT) in the transition-metal oxide NbO2, which is a less well-known sibling of the prototypical IMT material VO2. We shall uncover the driving mechanism behind the IMT phase transition by various time-resolved techniques such as UV/VIS/IR pump-probe spectroscopy and by our unique facility forultrafast x-ray diffraction, which allow us to disentangle changes in the electronic and lattice degrees of freedom after photoexcitation.

The applicant must have a Master's degree in Physics or a related discipline and should ideally have experience with laser setups and/or pump-probe techniques. Please sent your application to Dr. Marc Herzog before 31.1.2024 and do not hesitate to send informal inquiries.
