The International School is organized within the framework of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and ERASMUS+ at the Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic) in cooperation with the Universities of Bergen, Cyprus, Istanbul, Østfold, Porto, and Potsdam.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The BIP International School comprises both online and in-person phases. During the virtual segment (April 22-30, 2024), students will be invited to participate in online conferences on the school’s themes. These include sessions on the significance of ‘pleasure reading’ in promoting language acquisition and literacy among adult migrants (led by M. Young-Scholten), as well as on issues related to language teaching and literacy (led by F. Minuz).

The in-person segment will take place at the Masaryk University in Brno (June 3-7, 2024). It consists of (i) lectures given by teachers from the participating universities, e.g. on the notion of literacy, additional language acquisition, and family language policies, (ii) workshops led by expert trainers focusing, for instance, on autobiographical narration of multilingual experiences, and (iii) peer-to-peer activities, in which students will engage in discussions concerning case studies and issues directly related to the topics covered and/or their research. The main language of the school and the online lectures is English.

FOR:

A maximum of 10 advanced Master's students, or, if places are available, doctoral students in Linguistics or related disciplines enrolled at the University of Potsdam, may participate. Students will receive 3 or 5 credit points upon completion, in accordance with the curricula of their home universities. The recognition of credit points will follow the same procedure as in an Erasmus program. Priority will be given to applications from Master's students.
