Katharina Baum received her Master's Degree in Economics and Management Science from Humboldt University, Berlin in 2017. Being especially interested in the intersection between economics and human behavior, she focused on behavioral economics during her studies. Her interests lie in investigating deviations from rational behavior in decision making and individual preferences. In her Master's Thesis, she worked on time and risk preferences and developed a new method for measuring these.

During her Master's Studies, she worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for HumanDevelopment in the research group Adaptive Behavior and Cognition, led by Gerd Gigerenzer. Her projects involved investigating heuristics in expert decision making and context dependency in time preferences.

Katharina joined the chair of Business Informatics esp. Social Media and Data Science in January 2018. Her research as a PhD candidate is located at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society within the research group Digital Technologies and Well-being. In her work for the institute she is combining her interest in behavioral science research with using data from online behavior as well as analyzing the effects of digitalization on well-being.
