Julio Brandl studied psychology and business administration as well as media, communication and culture at the University of Klagenfurt, the University of Graz, and the University of Linz. After his studies, he was employed as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Innovation Management at the University of Klagenfurt and then moved into the business world: First, he worked at Bitkom, Germany's leading association for the ICT industry, and later at the strategy and management consultancy MSU Consulting.

As a doctoral candidate in the Digital Integration Research Group at the Weizenbaum Institute, Julio Brandl is investigating the possibilities of digital integration for vulnerable groups. He is also a lecturer in methodological research and psychology at several universities.
