Formal requirements
In order to apply for a position as doctoral researcher within the RTG „Minor Cosmopolitanisms“, applicants must have completed an M.A. degree or equivalent in one of the disciplines represented in the RTG (literary studies, cultural studies, cultural anthropology, sociology, history, Jewish studies) or in a related academic field (e.g., post- and decolonial studies, gender/queer studies, critical Europeanisation studies, border studies). The degree must have been completed, and the degree certificate issued, at the moment of submitting the application.
Since the RTG’s working language is English, language proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of German is no prerequisite and will not be considered as a selection criterion. If you have completed a degree with English as its language of instruction, or if you are an English native speaker, no proof of language proficiency will be requested. In all other cases, applicants will be asked to present certification of their English proficiency level in the course of the application process.
Required scores are:
- TOEFL: minimum scores of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (internet-based);
- CAE (Cambridge English: Advanced): grades A or B;
- CPE (Cambridge English: Proficiency): grades A, B, or C;
- or IELTS (International English Language Testing System): minimum score of 7.0.
