Marcescence is the withering and persistence of plant organs that usually are shed. A project of the University of Jena (Professorship of Biodiversity of Plants: Christine Römermann/ Tereza Mašková) aims to document inter- and intra-specific variation in marcescence across perennial herbaceous species in the northern temperate zone. It will accomplish this by surveying plants for marcescence across a network of botanical gardens in North America, Europe, and Asia. Our working group choosed 36 species to support this interesting survey. In the first step in August 2025 three representative ramets of these species were choosen, separated in stem, leaves and inflorescence, dryed and weight. With the next harvest in January 2026, these results can be linked to the weekly collected phenological data of our PhenObs-Project. We are curious about the results.
