Position CRC1644/A71 – PhD student Tiedemann group

The successful candidate will work 26 hours per week (65%), employed at the University of Potsdam. The position is classified within remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German states (TV-L). The earliest possible starting date is 1 April 2024 and the position is limited until 31 December 2027. The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act on Limited Scientific Contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or WissZeitVG).

Your responsibilities:

  • establish and apply methods for phenotyping acquired thermotolerance (aTT) traits
  • produce genomic/transcriptomic data, the latter relative to different heat treatment
  • employ the resulting data for genome-wide association mapping of plasticity genes
  • characterize the identified genes and their mode of action molecularly
  • infer heat-inducible gene-regulatory network (GRN) and its natural variation
  • investigate the impact of self-compatibility on aTT plasticity
  • integrate data with results about aTT and GRN evolution from other projects

Results from your work on this project should form the basis for your doctorate/PhD.

Prior specialization in plant sciences is helpful, but not required. Further, a keen interest in evolutionary mechanisms is highly appreciated. Practical knowledge in any of the following areas is desirable:

  • genomics/transcriptomics
  • bioinformatics
  • molecular biology
  • population genetics/evolutionary analysis
