Introducing: fruehstArt – Early, Cross-sectoral, Outreach and Family- centered Obesity Prevention

fruehstArt is an innovative intervention for the prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in children aged 3 to 6 years. Its goal is to sustainably improve the lifestyle of affected families through early, everyday-based interventions.

The intervention includes:

  • Medical counseling of parents by pediatricians
  • Outreach coaching by specially trained professionals
  • Rehabilitative services (outpatient or inpatient) for children with a BMI > 97th percentile
  • Digital support through a web-based application

The project is designed as a randomized controlled trial (RCT) within an Effectiveness-Implementation Hybrid model. A total of 812 children from North Rhine-Westphalia aged 3 to 6 years are participating. They are randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the control group in a 2:1 ratio. Over a period of twelve months, the study examines the effectiveness of various measures for preventing and treating childhood obesity.
