Prof. Dr. Maria Mutti Elected Vice President (Regions) of the AAPG
Prof. Dr. Maria Mutti, Chair of Sedimentology at the University of Potsdam, has been elected Vice President (Regions) of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). The AAPG is one of the oldest and largest international professional societies in the geosciences, with a focus on the study of geological processes and technologies related to energy exploration and utilization—addressing both traditional and renewable energy challenges and navigating the complex journey toward climate neutrality.
Starting in July 2025, Prof. Mutti will help shape and guide the AAPG’s global activities outside the United States, contributing strategically and providing fresh momentum. The role of Global Vice President (Regions) is pivotal to the continued development of the AAPG’s international networks and programs—particularly in light of the profound transformation in how energy and natural resources are sourced and used.
“I am very much looking forward to this role and the intensive international exchange it entails,” said Prof. Mutti. “In the face of global challenges such as energy security and achieving climate neutrality, the geosciences play a key role—and I see it as an important responsibility to actively contribute to this dialogue.”
