Seeanemone mit Clowns-Fisch

Liebe Damen und Herren,

das Forum Religionen im Kontext möchte Sie herzlich zu dem Vortrag von und der Diskussion mit Frau Prof. Dr. Judith Bronstein (University of Arizona) mit dem Titel „Why Cooperate with Another Species? The Biology of Mutualism“ einladen!

Biologists have always been fascinated by strife and conflict; indeed, these concepts lie at the heart of theories of evolution by natural selection. However, cooperative exchanges, involving all species and networking large numbers of them into complex communities, are ubiquitous in the natural world. Who cooperates, why do they cooperate, how does cooperation evolve, and how can it persist in the face of a pervasive “temptation to cheat”? Focusing specifically on mutualism, i.e., cooperation between different species, I will discuss how and why interest in these interactions emerged rather late in the history of biology. I will then survey our current understanding of mutualism and the major questions that we are still trying to answer. Finally, I will address the fate of mutualism in a rapidly changing world.

Wir freuen uns auf Ihr zahlreiches Erscheinen!
