Student Assistants (Wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte)
We are currently looking for several student research assistants to work with us on different projects and courses, described below. All positions require solid programming and software engineering skills (demonstrated by respective courses and/or practical experience). Advanced software engineering expertise (such as software quality assurance, research software engineering, empirical software engineering, etc.) is a plus. In addition, positions have specific requirements that are described below.

Tutors for "Software Engineering 1" in the winter semester 2025/2026 (6 hours per week, application deadline: 15th May 2025)
In the course "Software Engineering 1" students learn the basics of Software Engineering and also implement a small Java application. As a tutor, you will supervise up to two weekly lab sessions and evaluate the quality of the implementation of the Java application. You will also assist with the supervision and grading of the final exam.
Requires:
- Solid (Java) programming and software engineering skills, for example acquired in the courses Grundlagen der Programmierung, Praxis der Programmierung and Software Engineering 1
- Solid German language skills (the entire course is taught in German)
- Practical experience in software development or as a tutor is a plus
Student assistant for ZfQ project "Real-Projects@SE: Praxisnahe Softwareentwicklung mit externen Auftraggebern" starting August 2025 (1-year contract, 8-12 hours per week, application deadline: 15th May 2025)
The project aims to make the "Software Engineering 2" course more practice-oriented by having students work on real-life projects with external partners. You will work with us on the legal and organizational preparations, acquisition of external customers, and the preparation, execution and evaluation of the course.
Requires:
- First experiences in software development in larger teams (for instance from participating in "Software Engineering 2")
- Solid German language skills (the entire course is taught in German, and German legal texts are relevant)
- Good communication and writing skills
- Practical experience in software development or as a tutor is a plus
Student assistant for MNF project "Increasing target group diversity in the Research Software Engineering course" starting October 2025 (1-year contract, 6 hours per week, application deadline: 15th May 2025)
The project aims to adapt the teaching in the "Research Software Engineering" (RSE) course more closely to the needs of the diverse student body. In close exchange with the lectureres of the course, you will research topics from the disciplines of the participating students to reflect their diverse backgrounds, interview with subject matter experts from these fields to develop practical and well-founded examples, and create case studies that illustrate the research software development process in these disciplines.
Requires:
- Some experience with Research Software Engineering (for example from participating in our RSE course)
- Solid English language skills (as the entire course material is in English)
- Good communication and writing skills
