Cities, Citizenship and Civilization
The lecture considers the nexus between cities, citizenship and civilization in western political thought as well as the often neglected political dimension of ‚successful' or ‚sustainable' city rankings. Acknowledging that citizenship is indeed the cement of the city requires a comparative sociological approach to different cities in different societies, enabling a thorough understanding of the specific conditions and manifestations of political extremism and its influence on policies on migration, multiculturalism and citizenship.
