Anglophone transnational feminism in Ukraine: inter-imperial resistance in the contact zone
I look for forms of imagining transnational feminisms by working through a selection of original texts and translations from feminist journals published in Ukraine between the late 1990’s and 2022. What are the the political, affective, poetic, and other affinities that formulated these transnational feminist imaginaries in postsocialist Central Eastern Europe? How do multiple and complex genealogies of this feminist thought and its three working languages (English, Ukrainian, and Russian) contribute to the development of a contemporary feminist vocabulary? What idioms of the transnational (cosmopolitan, international) come to guide understanding of cooperation and solidarity in (post)Soviet Ukraine? How are the positionalities articulated in the context of inter-imperial rivalry on the one hand, and shifts in Anglophone global feminism on the other?
Biography
I was born in Ukraine and, as a young adult, moved along the route of Bulgaria, the U.S., and Germany to follow educational opportunities. I studied journalism, theater, philosophy and art, and obtained a BA im Value Studies from ECLA/Bard Berlin, and an MA in Anglophone Modernities from the University of Potsdam. For two years before joining the Research Training Group Minor Cosmopolitanisms I was a PhD Fellow at the Graduate Center for the Study of Culture at the University of Giessen where I was a speaker of the working group Europe’s East, and co-organized the reading group Feminist Psychoanalysis/ Psychoanalytic Feminism online.
