Educational research
As a discipline of social research, educational research deals with the educational system, educational processes or individual educational aspects such as teaching methods and materials.
Educational researchers analyse these, suggest improvements and thus provide the basis for decisions relevant to education, such as changes to curricula or school structures. To do this, you will either conduct your own studies or review existing materials and research data. Based on this, you will prepare expert reports, develop educational concepts or advise educational policy stakeholders. A very well-known example of international educational research is the PISA study conducted by the OECD.
As traditional scientists, educational researchers find work in universities and non-university research institutions. For information on starting a career in science, please also refer to our text on ‘Careers in the science and academia’.
You can search for research institutions in the field of education via the institution search of the German Education Server (Deutscher Bildungsserver).
