Welcome to the Faculty of Human Sciences

The teaching and research facilities of the Faculty of Human Sciences are located on the Golm campus and at the New Palace. The faculty is divided into two structural areas: educational sciences and cognitive sciences.

Teaching is organized into seven departments: Education, Inclusive Education, Music and Art, Primary Education, Psychology, Linguistics, and Sports and Health Sciences. A total of 65 professors teach and conduct research at the faculty. Approximately 5,500 students and doctoral candidates are trained each year.

Cognitive Sciences

Cognitive scientists at the University of Potsdam focus primarily on the structure, dynamics, development, and neural basis of language and grammar. They examine visual perception, numerical cognition, action execution, and motor coordination in children and adults.

Educational Sciences

Educational sciences deal with the topics of education, learning, and upbringing. They bring together findings from pedagogy, psychology, sociology, and philosophy in order to address problems and issues in a modern knowledge society.

Cognitive science is one of the four main areas of research at the University of Potsdam. Researchers from psychology, linguistics, and philosophy, as well as sports and health sciences, mathematics, physics, and computer science, work closely together in interdisciplinary teams.

Outpatient Clinic

The Outpatient Clinic serves as a center for sports, sports medicine and exercise. It is a training facility for the Brandenburg State Medical Association and is licensed as a medical examination center by the German Olympic Sports Confederation.

The DFG-funded SFB1287 “Limits of Variability in Language” is dedicated to identifying and understanding the causes of limits that restrict linguistic variability. Researchers are focusing on cognitive, computational, and grammatical factors.
