The lecture “Managing the Digital Transformation” teaches the basics of key topics in digital transformation. The lecture is interactive and engages students through audience response tools and discussions during the course. The introductory lectures deal with the concept of digital transformation, digital technologies and their research in business informatics, as well as values and responsibility in digital transformation. Structured into three areas—team & individual, organization, and society—individual topics (e.g., digital value creation, the role of social media, decision support) are covered in the subsequent lectures. In addition to the lecture, there is a tutorial in which students explore individual topics in greater depth. The course concludes with a final exam.

In the seminar “Research Project on Digital Transformation,” students work in small groups on a scientific question. At the beginning of the seminar, members of the chair present various topics that are usually related to current research and project topics of the research group. Students can indicate a topic preference, on the basis of which they are assigned to several small groups. Empirical research methods (e.g., literature reviews, interviews, surveys, experiments, data analyses, simulations) are used to investigate the question, and a research article is written. The project has a clear research focus and prepares students for further academic work and a career in academia after graduation (e.g., master's thesis, doctorate).
