Hydrological Modeling (HM)

The spatial and temporal distribution of soil water content is a key constituent for the coupled moisture processes between the land surface and the atmosphere.

The initialization and evaluation of hydrological and atmospheric models with respect to soil moisture is particularly challenging because observation and modelling scales are typically mismatching. Likewise important is the appropriate description of snow storage.

The Hydro Modelling group focuses on the limits and potentials of non-invasive Cosmic Ray Neutron based Sensing (CRNS) being integrate them into coupled hydrological – atmospheric modelling through data assimilation.
