Affiliated Event: Posthumanities in/from Abya Yala and Latin America

In December 2025, Potsdam Postcolonial Studies Collective Member Jenny Haase convened the Spanish language symposium "Posthumanidades en/desde Abya Yala y América Latina" (engl. "Posthumanities in/from Abya Yala and Latin America"). The symposium proposed to reconsider the place, function, and meaning of the so-called humanities in Abya Yala and/or Latin America. By posthumanities, we understand a myriad of literate practices and disciplinary optics that originate in and invoke the subjects, societies, cultures, and Indigenous histories of the region, while simultaneously rejecting or moving beyond anthropocentrism.
