Plant Ecology and Nature Conservation

University of Potsdam - Institute of Biochemistry and Biology - Plant Ecology and Nature Conservation group

Welcome

Our general mission is to develop a mechanistic understanding of how environmental changes and land use impact biodiversity dynamics. Using a spatial perspective we scale up from functional traits and individual organisms to populations and communities and link patch-level processes to landscape dynamics. Combining (mostly spatial) modeling with empirical studies and experiments we primarily focus on community ecology of
(i) drylands or (ii) grasslands, or explore (iii) the link between movement ecology and biodiversity dynamics. Our research is supplemented by several applied projects related to regional nature conservation.
