Invitation: 5th ECPR Graduate Student Conference, 3-5 July 2014, University of Innsbruck

The Graduate Student Conference is specifically tailored to the needs of graduate students looking to gain valuable political science conference experience, network, and further their personal and academic development in political and social sciences. Ideally suited to 'first-time' delegates, the conference combines a comprehensive academic and social programme over three days.  The Graduate Student Conference is only open to graduate students who are studying for a Master's degree, a PhD, or who hold junior postdoctoral positions.

The format of the conference

The academic programme consists of lectures, roundtables and themed Sections and Panels covering all the main areas of political science, political theory, international relations and European studies. Each Panel will include 3-5 Papers to be presented and discussed. Attendees can present and discuss their work or simply observe and become involved in other elements of the programme. Individuals may perform each conference function (Section Chair, Panel Chair, Discussant, Paper giver) only once within the academic programme and Panel Chair(s) may not present a Paper in the same Panel that they are Chairing.

Stage 1 - propose a section

Gain first-hand experience of a political science conference by proposing a Section. Only graduate students from full ECPR member institutions are invited to organise a Section. All proposals to organise Sections should be submitted online via MyECPR by 27 September 2013. Section proposers should read the Guidelines document for full details of the conference.

Stage 2  - call for panels and papers

In late October, the call for Panels to include 3-5 Papers and individual Papers for Sections will be opened. The second stage is open to graduate students from ECPR member and non-member institutions, but please note that all participants must have a MyECPR account. Further information explaining the stages in detail can be found in the Guidelines, and further information about the role of the Panel Chair and Discussant can be found here.

Conference funding opportunities

Funding opportunities up to €250 are available for travel and accommodation to individuals affiliated with ECPR member institutions (subject to meeting the required criteria). The funding application process will open next year and details will be available on the website in due course.
