Prof. Dr. Flavia Rios

I am a professor at the University of São Paulo (USP, since 2014), where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences (2005), my Teaching Degree in Social Sciences (2006), and my Master's degree in Sociology (2009). During my doctoral studies, I was a Visiting Student Research Collaborator at Princeton University. I have also been a member of the faculty at the Federal University of Goiás and the Federal Fluminense University.

I served on the scientific committee of the project Latin American Anti-racism in a ‘Post-Racial’ Age (LAPORA, 2017–2018), and I currently participate in the Research Unit Collaborations project through research on the Black Coalition for Rights, in collaboration with Professor Sérgio Costa.

My research is interdisciplinary and wide-ranging. Through my projects, I have developed extensive experience and collaborations in the fields of Political Sociology and the Sociology of Culture. My work focuses particularly on collective action, intersectional theories, race and gender relations, the Military Dictatorship and democracy, education, and affirmative action policies in higher education.
