Matthias Hartlieb - Polymeric Biomaterials

Matthias and his team are designing polymeric materials for use in biomedical applications. In particularly, they are interested in antimicrobial polymers as they are a possible solution to the ever increasing issue of antimicrobial resistance. To create more efficient and selective materials, they are using various tools of polymer chemistry including RAFT-polymerization, ROMP, Cationic ring-opening polymerization, and supramolecular polymerization. The group is particularly interested in how polymeric architecture influences the biological activity of these biomaterials.

 

Matthias received the prestigious Emmy Noether and Heisenberg funding from the DFG.

Ulrich Glebe - Biohybrid Materials

Uli and his team's research is located at the interface between chemistry and biology. They address various aspects related to the synthesis, the characterization, and the application of peptide/protein-polymer conjugates. The topics have two main foci: biomedical research and bioeconomy. Typical research work includes synthesis, assembly and characterization of polymers, protein-polymer hybrid materials, solid-phase peptide synthesis, and enzyme-mediated ligations.

Ulrich recived the prestigious Heisenberg funding by the DFG.

Johannes Gurke - Applied Photochemistry and 3D Bioelectronics

Johannes and his team explore new approaches for the fabrication of complex device architectures to monitor biological processes, using among others lithographic 3D printing techniques. Here is one challenge, to process highly conductive polymeric materials with light. They also explore tools to monitor and modulate cellular processes in vitro and in vivo, especially for translation into biomedical research.

Johannes received the BMFTR Nanomatfutur funding.
