Alexander Böker is director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP and holds the Chair for Polymer Materials and Polymer Technology at the University of Potsdam, Germany. He studied chemistry at the University of Mainz and obtained his Habilitation in Physical Chemistry and his Ph.D. in Macromolecular and Physical Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth. His scientific career includes roles as Deputy Scientific Director at the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials, and previous positions at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Bayreuth. He also completed postdoctoral research at the University of Massachusetts and worked at Bayer AG and Cornell University. He has received several fellowships and honors, including the ERC Consolidator Grant, the Emmy Noether Fellowship of the DFG and the Lichtenberg Fellowship of the VolkswagenStiftung. He actively serves in various scientific boards, including roles as editor in chief of Polymers (MDPI) and as associate editor of SCI Sustainability (Wiley). His scientific output consists of more than 175 peer-reviewed papers as well as and 16 patent applications. The main research interests of his group include integration of biological functions into polymer materials and guided self-assembly of colloidal and polymer systems
