In February 2019, the head of the working group, Mrs. Prof. Dr. Regina Hoffmann-Vogel, was appointed W2 Professor for Experimental physics of condensed matter at the Institute of physics and astronomy at the University of Potsdam. Regina Hoffmann-Vogel received her doctorate in physics in Basel in 2001. She then went to Montreal, Canada, as a postdoctoral fellow and subsequently headed an ERC Starting Grant Junior Research Group in Karlsruhe. Her research focuses on surfaces, which she examines with high-resolution atomic force microscopy on an atomic scale. She also investigates the electronic transport through nanostructures on these surfaces. An important goal is to establish nanometer-sized contacts to molecules and to image them with high resolution and to influence them in a targeted manner. This serves as a prerequisite for producing new functional switching elements for storage media.
