Erasmus Staff Week in Graz: A visit to 'treffpunkt sprachen'

The Erasmus Staff Week took place at the Karl Franzens University of Graz from 27 November to 1 December 2023. For the ninth time, 31 representatives from various European universities met in southern Austria, among them two colleagues from the University of Potsdam.

The Graz GUEST Week is an established platform for the exchange of experiences, the presentation of completed projects as well as plans and best practices in various fields of university life. This time, topics such as international relations, work in the areas of administration, research, personnel and the role of libraries were discussed in plenary sessions and focus groups.

Foreign language training at the University of Graz was a particular focus. The treffpunkt sprachen - Centre for Language, Plurilingualism and Didactics is an important address for students interested in languages at the University of Graz. As part of the individually tailored programme, Olga Holland along with staff and researchers at treffpunkt sprachen discussed the challenges at the language centres and the associated chances and problems. The language course programmes on offer both at Graz’ treffpunkt sprachen and Potsdam University’s Zessko, the respective opportunities and procedures for placement, testing and certification were among the central topics of exchange.

Action research is an important area of work at treffpunkt sprachen. Its results have led to a whole series of publications, some of which are now available in book form at Zessko and will soon be available in the media center.
