Dr. Magnus Åsblad

Magnus Åsblad is a postdoctoral researcher in the STATE-DNA project since March 2025. He obtained his PhD in Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, with the dissertation “Beyond the Border: International pressures and state-building.” His research centers around state capacity and state-building, as well as bureaucratic structures and functions. During his time at the University of Gothenburg, he was affiliated with the Quality of Government Institute (QoG). In 2022, he was a guest researcher at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in Spain. Before obtaining his PhD, Magnus worked as a journalist in Sweden and abroad, covering politics and economics.
