Formal requirements and criteria

In order to apply for a position as postdoctoral researcher within the RTG „Minor Cosmopolitanisms“, applicants must have completed a doctorate in one of the disciplines represented in the RTG (literary studies, cultural studies, cultural anthropology, sociology, history, Jewish studies) or in a related academic field (e.g., post- and decolonial studies, gender/queer studies, critical Europeanisation studies, border studies).

Since the RTG’s working language is English, language proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of German is welcome. If you have completed a degree with English as its language of instruction, have written your doctoral thesis in English, or are an English native speaker, no proof of language proficiency will be requested. In all other cases, applicants will be asked to present certification of their English proficiency level in the course of the application process.

Required scores are:

Applicants will be asked to propose a project for their second book. The project should

  • take a sustained theoretical and conceptual approach to minor cosmopolitanisms
  • have a transareal focus on more than just one region of global cultural production
  • be interdisciplinary in scope.

The academic quality of this project, its relevance for the RTG’s research profile, and its potential to set into conversation a wide range of doctoral projects within the RTG, will form the main criteria for the selection of candidates.

In addition, cadidates are expected to have substantial previous research experience in the fields of the RTG and to demonstrate this experience in their CVs and publication lists. Previous experience in international networking, in the conception and organisation of scientific events, and in the publication of edited volumes is highly welcome. The position requires excellent social skills and capacity for teamwork.

The RTG is committed to difference and diversity, and strongly encourages applications by international candidates, especially from the Global South. The selection process will take into account issues of gender imbalance as well other factors of structural disadvantage.
