Procedure

In the project, we use audio recordings of teachers' language and evaluate them with innovative technologies – specifically with large language models. We combine this data with questionnaire data on the motivation of teachers and learners. Our question is to what extent the motivation of the teachers is "transferred" to the learners through their motivating language.

In our research project, we are particularly interested in the "value messages" of teachers – against the background of the expectation-value theory of Eccles and colleagues, we are particularly interested in messages that address the value of mathematics in the classroom.

The project is designed as a longitudinal questionnaire study with three measurement points within a school year and refers to mathematics teaching. Seventh and eighth grade students and their mathematics teachers at schools in Berlin and Brandenburg are surveyed.
