The 3-day conference is part of a larger research project on Transandean studies, currently led by Marco Thomas Bosshard (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) and Vicente Bernaschina Schürrmann (Universität Potsdam). In its theoretical framework, this symposium is the first of its kind, bringing together scholars from Mexico, Italy, Germany, USA, Brazil, the Netherlands, Bolivia, and Spain to tackle a variety of crucial questions about the region:
How is the cultural space of the Andes perceived by the politics, the societies, and the scholarship of the different countries in the Andean region? As the ones who have mainly shaped the transnacional character of the cultural Andean space, where do the indigenous communities fit in? How can this cultural space be modeled, (re)constructed, and be filled with life?
