Open Positions

The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center SFB 1294 “Data Assimilation – The Seamless Integration of Data and Models”, hosted at the University of Potsdam jointly with its partner Institutions HU Berlin, TU Berlin, WIAS Berlin and GFZ Potsdam, invites applications for 

  • 14 doctoral and 3 postdoctoral 4-year positions

in the field of data assimilation (including statistical inverse problems, dynamical systems, applied and computational mathematics, and machine learning) and its application to biophysics, neurosciences and geosciences.

The approved first funding period is 01.07.2017 to 30.06.2021. The maximum possible funding period of SFB 1294 is 12 years.

Once your registration has been confirmed by email, you will have access to the online application form. As part of the application process you will have to upload a single PDF file containing the following information/documents:

  1. a statement of research interests and motivation, 
  2. a T-Profile
  3. a full CV (including a list of publications/talks/presentations if applicable), 
  4. the names and e-mail addresses of two referees, 
  5. academic transcripts, 
  6. a link to an electronic copy of your Master's or PhD thesis,
  7. proof of proficiency in English (PhD applicants only)

You are encouraged to express an interest for more than one position but not more than three in total. Applicants are required a completed academic study at an institute of higher learning (Master degree or equivalent).

Candidate evaluation will begin after the application deadline July 9th, 2017; with an anticipated start of projects on October 1st, 2017. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a selection workshop and a personal interview to take place on September 7th and 8th

Employment will be made according to the individual conditions of the institution (TU Berlin, HU Berlin, GFZ, WIAS Berlin, University Potsdam) employing the selected candidate.  All institutions are equal opportunity / affirmative action employers.
