Childhood Pedagogy as School of View – on the development of an inquiry-focused attitude

Every child is a curious, inquiring child in its own way, but s/he must also be perceived and fostered as such. To be open about their world, young children need educators who develop an inquiring view themselves. It is not enough that educators acquire such a view in university - only to experience how conditions of practical work in a kindergarten may slacken off such a perspective. That is why the conditions of practical work must be changed in such a way as to not only allow for an inquiring attitude, but also create opportunities to foster this attitude.
The essential question is thus, how do we foster professional action in practical work? In my opinion this is both the greatest chance and greatest challenge for the early excellence approach. Early excellence requires a high degree of professionality. However, the strength of this approach is that is will continuously generate professionality in practical work. In order to do this, educators will need certain “tools” to observe children, to document these observations and to evaluate and reflect them with others.
