Processes of innovation are widely induced by public policies at different levels of government and in divergent political and socio-economic situations. Although these innovation processes take place in different governmental systems, when looking at new industrialised countries and countries moving towards industrialisation in particular sectors, it is striking that similar policy instruments are applied. The lecture will address this topic by using a comparative approach, including experiences from Europe, the US and Asia, while paying attention to labour forces, regions, research networks, technologies and industries. It provides an overview about on-going processes and permits discussion of the relationship between government policies and diversities of innovation in a systematic way.
