DESCRIPTION:Self-Presentation for Women\n\nFinding and Using Your Voice in Male-Dominated Research Environments\n\nTrainerin: Dr. Juliane Handschuh \n\nContent and goalsLarge parts of the academic research landscape are still shaped by a communication culture that developed in predominantly male contexts — with its own implicit rules around status, visibility, and how to take up space. Women and people perceived as female in these environments often face a choice that shouldn't have to be a choice: adapt, or risk being overlooked. This workshop rejects that framing. The goal is not to learn how to fit into a male communication culture, but to understand how it works — and from that understanding, to develop a communication style that is both authentic and effective. Participants will explore what gets in the way of showing up fully, work on their own voice and presence, and practice concrete strategies for navigating the specific challenges of research environments. \n\nIn this workshop, the participants will learn and practice:\n\nHow male-dominated communication cultures work: vertical vs. horizontal communication, communicative high and low status, power and dominance gesturesThe inner team (Schulz von Thun): understanding the internal voices that shape how we communicate in challenging situations — and building inner coherence as a foundation for authentic expressionSelf-presentation and visibility: how to make yourself seen and heard in ways that feel genuinePerformative speaking: presence, voice, and how to take up spaceQuick-wittedness: how to respond to interruptions, dismissals, and inappropriate commentsCase work: bringing in real situations from your own work context and developing strategies together with the group.\n\n\n\nPlease register here: https://www.uni-potsdam.de/en/ppp/news-events/events/registration-workshop-self-presentation-for-women\n\n\n\nOnly for CRC 1644 members!\n\n\n\n \n\nGehalten von:\nDr. Juliane Handschuh\n\nAnmeldung:\nJa, bis zum 01.09.2026\n\nVeranstaltungsart:\nWorkshop\n\nSachgebiet:\n\n\nUniversitäts-/ Fachbereich:\nMathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät\n\nVeranstalter:\nSFB 1644\n\nKontakt:\nDr. Nina Freimuth\nKarl-Liebknecht-Str. 24/25\n14476, Potsdam\nTel: 0331-977-203192\nEmail: nina.freimuth@uni-potsdam.de\n\n
