DESCRIPTION:<p>English:</p>\n<p>Higher education institutions (HEIs) around the world are increasingly called upon to address urgent and complex societal and global challenges. These range from the climate crisis and democratic backsliding to local inequalities and attacks on science and academic values. While teaching and research have long shaped societal development, the third mission — the engagement with and for society — is gaining critical importance in light of multiple crises and ongoing transformation.</p>\n<p>This event brings together voices from Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Europe to explore how the roles and responsibilities of HEIs are evolving.</p>\n<p>The session begins with a keynote by Prof. Dr. Oliver Günther, President of the University of Potsdam, who will offer a perspective from the German context. Diese reichen von der Klimakrise und der Erosion demokratischer Strukturen bis hin zu lokalen Ungleichheiten sowie Angriffen auf Wissenschaft und akademische Werte. Während Lehre und Forschung seit jeher gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen prägen, gewinnt die sogenannte Third Mission – das Engagement mit und für die Gesellschaft – angesichts multipler Krisen und laufender Transformationen zunehmend an Bedeutung.</p>\n<p>Die Veranstaltung bringt Stimmen aus Afrika, Lateinamerika, Südostasien und Europa zusammen, um zu beleuchten, wie sich die Rollen und Verantwortlichkeiten von Hochschulen weltweit verändern.</p>\n<p>Die Veranstaltung beginnt mit einer Keynote von Prof. Dr. Oliver Günther, Präsident der Universität Potsdam, der eine Perspektive aus dem deutschen Kontext einbringt.
