What can I do if I have not been admitted to a course in PULS?
We recommend that you go to the course and speak with the instructor in person to see whether circumstances may lead to a free slot coming available in the course; then the instructor can admit you to the course after the fact.
What are the criteria for awarding credit points (CP)?
One CP corresponds to an average of 25-30 hours of scholarly work.
Can I receive Studiumplus credit for courses I completed in another subject, or language courses, that for example I completed at another university?
Yes, if the work completed matches the Studiumplus module requirements, then the Examining Board for your major subject can approve the recognition of Studiumplus credits.
Can vocational training or a social year be counted towards Studiumplus?
Yes. Competences that you have acquired outside of higher education or before starting your university studies can be credited as practical achievement for Studiumplus. If the work completed matches the Studiumplus requirements, then the Examining Board for your major subject can approve the recognition of Studiumplus credits. Keep in mind however that credits cannot be recognized if they already formed the basis of an admissions decision to bachelor’s studies at the University of Potsdam.
Can I have study abroad experience counted towards Studiumplus?
Yes, if the stay abroad falls within the time of your bachelor’s studies at the University of Potsdam, then it can be partially credited. The acquisition of intercultural competences implicit in a stay abroad can be credited for up to 3 CP of Studiumplus credits on the basis of a report about your experiences and an application to the Examining Board for your major subject.
How can I apply to the Examining Board for the recognition of previously earned credits?
Can I receive university credit for language courses that I took at school?
No. Study and exam achievements that already formed the basis of an admissions decision to bachelor’s studies at the University of Potsdam cannot be recognized.
Do I need grades in Studiumplus?
Yes. Only practically-oriented tutorials and internships, student initiatives and projects are not graded. The number of ungraded CPs cannot exceed 50%, because more than 30 CPs will not be considered for calculating grades.
How many credit points need to be graded?
At least 15 CP need to be graded. Students can make their own decisions about how many courses have to be taken to attain this quota.
How do you determine the overall grade for Studiumplus?
The total grade for Studiumplus is determined by multiplying all of the module grades by their respective number of credit points, then dividing by the number of credit points.
How do key competences figure into the BA grade?
The overall grade for Studiumplus, which is made up of 30 credit points, goes into the calculations for the overall grade for the bachelor’s degree, which then results from the subject grades in relation to credit point totals (90 + 60 or 150).
Do I have to earn a grade in all of the modules?
No, you only need to earn a grade in modules that do not exclusively contain practical sessions. The grade will be determined from the average of the individual grades.
Do I have to take Studiumplus courses every semester?
In the early semesters, taking courses in the basic module is obligatory (see also “General questions”). Afterwards, you will typically take courses from three advanced phase modules.
May I already visit advanced phase courses although I haven’t yet completed the basic phase?
