The completion of a PhD is the starting point for a scholarly career. The dissertation demonstrates the ability to conduct more profound scientific work, and it is the only certificate that is recognized worldwide in the academic sector as well as in business and industry. Doctoral studies are done on the basis of a scholarly project (dissertation) and the successful completion of an oral examination (disputation). The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences awards the title of Dr. rer. pol.
The procedure for completing a doctoral degree is set out in detail; there are specific rules and different funding options. Additional information is available on the information pages. You can also contact the Faculty’s contact person directly.
If you face problems or troubles regarding your doctoral studies you can contact the Ombudsperson as well. Ombudsperson at the Faculty of Economics and Scoial Sciences is Prof. Dr. Ulfert Gronewold.
Further support and training is offered by the Potsdam Graduate School (PoGS). Please visit https://www.pogs.uni-potsdam.de to learn more about recent trainings and support opportunities.
