Honorary Doctorates
On April 11, 2018, Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer was awarded an honorary doctorate.
The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences awarded Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Klaus Töpfer with an honorary doctorate of the faculty in order to acknowledge his exceptional contributions, outstanding personality, and societal engagement. "He has worked in various capacities at numerous institutions, consistently blending scientific action with a drive for political shaping," stated the President of the University of Potsdam, Prof. Oliver Günther, Ph.D., during the solemn conferral on April 11, 2018, in Griebnitzsee. The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Maik Heinemann, justified Töpfer's accolade by highlighting his unwavering commitment to "shifting global concerns such as climate change into the political spotlight." The prevailing understanding today that addressing this issue requires international cooperation can be attributed to Klaus Töpfer.
